Why Voiceovers Are So Important - And what they're saying about you and your brand
Here’s something you’ve maybe never thought about: Any voiceover you use for a business or brand serves as a spokesperson for that business or brand. It’s easy to overlook and not recognize just how important the voiceovers you use are. It’s just a voiceover, right? Wrong. Voiceovers not only communicate your content to your audience or customers but they also communicate a lot about you, your business or your brand.
Think about it. If you use a lot of voiceovers that sound young, those voiceovers can communicate that your brand is youthful - which may be a good or bad thing depending on your target audience. The same goes for voiceovers that sound any age or style. Use voiceovers with a casual or approachable style? Your brand may start to become known as that. More formal voiceovers can make your brand seem more formal, professional or even uptight. And a bad, unprofessional voiceover can reflect poorly on your business.
Let’s not forget about the extremes as well. If you use a voiceover that’s too pushy, too hard sell, or too excited, that says a lot about your brand to your customers. You could be communicating that you’re desperate or unfriendly, even if you don’t realize it. And while announcer voiceovers can be useful in some instances, using them the wrong way can make your business seem outdated - alienating younger audiences that might automatically ignore a booming, announcer voiceover.
Every business owner, marketer, producer, or creative director must pay close attention to the voiceovers they use. Your voiceovers not only communicate your message to your audience and customers, but they also say a ton about your brand or business as well.
